We are stoked to introduce “Goddess,” our first collaborative shirt with mural artist Kamea Hadar. Hadar is co-director of POW! WOW! Hawaii, an ultra-creative art and music festival held every February in Honolulu’s most progressive neighborhood, Kaka’ako. Although Kamea’s work is based in traditional portraiture, it has evolved off of the canvas to large scale murals and installations that be found in cities around the world.
This cotton broadcloth features Goddess-like female figures, symbolizing the perfect human forms we strive to be. While looking in every direction, we are surrounded by one another and also by nature. The lei po’o, or “head lei” that each figure dons is made up of native flora and represents the land it grows from. Like rain water falling from a mountain top, flowing hair cascades from underneath the lei to the top of another figure, representing the cycle of fresh water and of life.
